I recently installed an Aztech AZT 4029 modem onto an empty COM port (4) on my PDC and I confirmed that it was set up correctly with Hyperterminal. I then installed RAS successfully (it is running and “Waiting for Call”. However, when the server boots up, I get the following error in Event Viewer:
EVENT ID: 7024
SOURCE: Service Control Manager
DESC: The Messenger Service terminated with server-specific error 2270.
It is my understanding that:
EVENT ID 7024 = The requested operation cannot be completed because the terminal connection is currently busy processing a connect, disconnect, reset, or delete operation.
ERROR 2270 = The computer name could not be added as a message alias. The name may already exist on the network.
I checked RAS and it is running. I checked WINS and noticed that all queries received have failed (although Event Viewer says it’s initialized and working correctly).
I tested RAS and was able to connect, however, the server did freeze up after about 5 minutes while trying to get into an Access database.
Has this affected WINS or NetBIOS somehow? I do have a secondary WINS server and it is working correctly and it looks like it may be doing all of the resolution now!?
