    Rational and Borland for sale?

    Locked

    by privatelyowed ·

CNET News has reported that IBM is bidding for Rational Software:

Reuters has recently reported that Microsoft, in addition to being interested in Rational, is looking to buy Borland as well:

Will any of these deals go through? If so, what kind of an impact do you see consolidation like this having on your work?

      I hope not

I am a member of the Research Triangle Park Delphi Interest Group. At our monthly meeting held last night, we had David Scruggs, a Systems Engineer with Borland, as our speaker. His indication was this was an incorrect rumor. To his knowledge (although he did admit he was not told everything that goes on at the higher levels of management) there is no truth whatsoever that Borland was planning on selling to Microsoft. But he also indicated that if offered enough money, Borland would probably sell to whoever offered it. Question is, how much is enough? Personally, I hope they don’t sell. Fuller has turned that company around. They have always had what I believe to be superior development tools. Their problems of three years ago or so, I believe, were merely financial mismanagement. Fuller has got their costs under control, got some money in the bank, and is now beginning to spend again on R&D and expansion through acquisition. I hope Borland continues to be Borland.
