re-add a profile

By hotrodgers ·
can you delete a user profile that has got corrupted and re-add the same user profile? will this lose all current settings and if so can you just copy there desktop icons, favorites, etc.. to a temp folder then remove and re-add and then copy over from the temp back to the profile? i have a user profile that is not working anymore on several things but the other users on the same machine are working fine, so i feel that the profile for that user has got corrupted or something.. any suggestions thanks

Yes, you can delete the users profile through sysyem properties - advanced tab. Or you can delete the users folder structure in Documents and Settings.
If the profile in question ia a roaming profile, You can take ownership of it on the server and delete it. If the user has a caced copy of the profile on a workstation, once they log on, the cached copy will copy itself to the server. If there is no cached copy, a new profile will be created

What I prefer to do is rename the username folder under documents and settings to username.bak, relog the user on with a clean profile and then copy the relevant folders (favorites etc) over to the new profile folder.
