Re install Widows 98?

After spendy very lengthgy discussions with my cable provider on thre phone, he suggested that I re-install wWindows 98 on one of my ccomputers. One computers gets on the internet , the other does not. He did quite a few things checking. Here is my question: Can I re-install Windows 98 without losing all the data on the computer?

Yes,you will run the operating sys stup over the existing os,you may have to reinstall some of your programs or applications,but there is always a chance of losing data,you need to do a backup of the current data,then run install by inserting the CD and startup disk in drive and run setup with cd rom support
