I have several dell and compaq travel laptops that do not have floppy or cd drives. I have no problem installing XP on the dells, but my compaq armada m300’s won’t take the OS. I format drive with fat32, install dos 7.10 and smartdrv.exe and then copy over I386 from my XP cd. Put hard drive back into the final destination laptop and run smartdrv.exe then run I386\winnt.exe. This installs the setup files for XP but when it reboots I get NTLDR not found, press any key to reboot. This does not happen with my dells. My dells continue with the install an work perfectly. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to install OS o my compaq armada’s?
