re-installing Visual Studio 6 on W2k Pro

I had Visual C++ (from a Visual Studio Professional package) installed and working on my Windown 2000 Pro computer. At one point, I tried to do a re-install and now C++ only offers “database” as a type of new project for creation and the standard pick lists have ghosted such options as adding files to projects, etc. I have tried removing and re-installing with various component combinations without any change in the C++. I also followed the special instructions in the installation guide for installing W2k pro components prior to installation and that has made no difference. Any ideas??? Oh yeah, I have done the service pack installations and have searched the Microsoft site…
