Read only Attributes on Folders

All folders on my XP workstations have read only attributes set when viewing from Explorer. The read only attribute is not there when I use “Attrib” from the command line. I am having some difficulty with some video capture programs that seem to think that they can not write to the drives. I have done all Updates from MS and tried the registry hacks from MS. Any ideas?
