Why do you need READ-ONLY Ethernet cable? If you want to make IDS host unaccessible from the netwrok, just uninstall all protocols from this box. If it's Windows 2000 machine, just uncheck all protocols and clients in Control Panel->Networks. If youwant to be completely sure, edit TCP/IP Properties and configure the station with "dummy" IP address. Same thing you may do with any TCP/IP device.

But if you really need to create "receiving-only cable", Ethernet uses pair 1&2 for transmission and 3&6 for receifing. May be try to cut pair 1&2 at your IDS end of patch cord. But more practically would be take 2 RJ-45 outlets and play with jumping between them.

Good luck.

Wire is wire. It sends and receives without knowing which is which. There is no such thing as a read-only cable. Your IDS configuration will decide who can and cannot change it.
