Read-Only Problem

By Don_Juan ·
We have a user that when ever she opens a document for the first time she can do what ever she wants to it. But when she opens it the next time it is opened as read-only. Then it is left as read-only. Then other people try to open it and it is opened as read-only. Sometimes they can log off and log back on and that will clear the prolem. Someone else tried logging on to her computer and she had had the same problem. The pc is running Win2000 and the data is stored on a Novell Server. Nowwe gave her another computer with word and excel and it seems to work fine for now. She can log on and open those docs and they don't come up as read-only. That seems quite confusing. We think it might have something to do with her first pc but we are not sure. We also think it could be a permission thing since the folder in which these docs are from has been moved recently further down in the tree. After which these prolems started. Hopefully this is enough info, and I hope someone might have and idea.

Read-Only Problem

by Oz_Media In reply to Read-Only Problem

I have seen a similar problem with an older PC on our Netware network. The LOCAL resolution was to clear the workstations TEMP files.
With respect to moving the file, this could also relate to the user permissions. Have you tried using the older PC since the folder was moved? Obviosly if the files save correctly now, the problem was with permissions.
Let me know how it goes,
HS

remove normal.dot and test if the problem is solved or not
are there any error messages displayed while the file is saved/opened ?
