real mode pc card drivers

i need to reinstall windows on
a hard drive in a sony laptop.
all i have is a pccard cdrom made by
i-o data. I have been in touch with them
and sony trying to get this cdrom installed
with dos. the real mode driver from iodata
does not work and sony claims to not have
anything. does anyone have any ideas.

If it's windows 98 you can boot to dos, format c: and boot to a win98 startup disk. Chose boot with cd rom support (you may want to check booting this way before you format) and then istall 98 from the cd. The only problem is that it will alter your drive letters due to the ram drive which always takes d:. Hope this works for you.

already been formatted, the drive
was corrupted. how do i get to the
cd without card services loaded first. it seems card services is my issue.
i have the real mode cdrom driver and
pc card driver but the pc card won't
run without card services.
any ideas

To prevent the loading of any real mode drivers, why not repartion and format the driver with the Win98 startup disk and then copy the Win98 Cabs to the HDD, either through the LPT port using something like LapLink or through a network card, presuming you have access to these.
I personally have always tried avoiding any realmode drivers, especially during the installation of any Windows Versions.

Although I chose to install a LPT port CDrom drive, this answer would have
worked as well.
