Real world min requirements for WIN2KPro

By HRights ·
For thos of you who have deployed/tested Windows 2000 Professional, what have you found to be the Real World minimum hardware requirements? (ram, harddrive space, etc.)

I know Microsoft's recommendations, but am looking for Real world.

Real world, I'm writing this note on a P233/MMX with 81meg of RAM and it works quite nicely with better performance than the same hardware had on NT4 or Win98. To be honest, it works noticeably better at 128meg but performance at the current 81meg is entirely adequate and, at the moment, I have Outlook, IE, an ACCESS2000 database and my accounting software open.

I'm fortunate to have a 15gig drive in this machine, but the system partition with all the applications is 4gig total of which 2gig is unused.

It really depends on the type of users you have, those reading emails, writing a few word documents and doing a bit of Excel, obviously need a lot less than the hard core developer who needs to run Visual Studio .NET and Visual Source Safe, along with IIS 5.0

For our "run of the mill" users we are pushing P233, 128 Mb RAM, 4 Gb disk - for a laptop. Note: The same configuration will "fly" on a desktop machine.

Are you using desktops, or laptops and what is your "user profile" like?

Thanks
