Reassigning/duplicating audio channels with 7.1 channels

by r9x . Updated 17 years, 8 months ago

I want to make use of my “side” audio channels with my 7.1 channel system by having the output for the normal “front” channels copied to these side channels.
WHY? – I can then run a separate output of standard left/right channels to another stereo system.
I am already using a splitter, but do not want to do that, would rather just use the channels my computer already has available.
These “side” channels are currently unused, and not often supported by DVD and most sound programs, players, applications, etc.

So, put most simply, I want the output that normally goes to my standard “front” channels, or the same channels that everyone has, even in a two speaker system, to be copied to my spare audio outputs (“side”), thus, providing another output for audio to another source.

I know this is possible, but cannot find how to do it.

I have a 64 bit (AMD Athlon 64) system with 7.1 sound right off the motherboard, and am running Windows 2000 pro and XP pro on a dual-boot system.

– No, I am not yet going to upgrade to Vista, nor will I change over to Linux, Ubuntu, etc,
and will not be doing much/any hardware upgrading to this system, as I intend to build a new type of system altogether when the time comes.

SOMEONE out there must have thought of/done this before, so please enlighten me as to how I can do it.

Thank you.
