Reboot After Bluescreen

By bbuechler ·
I've forgotten the location and name of the registry key that you use to get an NT server to automatically reboot after recieving a Bluescreen. Please provide.

Just go to System in the control panel. Then the startup/shutdown tab. There you will see a check box to auto-reboot. Or if you really want the reg key, here it is:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl

Set the AutoReboot key to 1.

Hope this helps,
Dave

This unfortunately is not the end-all to the problem. We have a server that's bluescreening, and we need it to auto-reboot so that it will immediately come back up.

The server in question actually has that checkbox checked already - and it's still not rebooting.

You should be able to right-click My Computer, click Properties.

Click Startup/Shutdown. Check: Write event to system log, write debugging information to (file--default is fine), overwrite any existing file, and automatically reboot.

AFAIK, if you don't dump, automatic reboot is far less likely to work.

Also, the dump requires that you have a paging file on the system drive that is not smaller than memory. The default size is RAM + 11 MB, which works fine.
