    Reboot when doing a shutdown

    Locked

Hi, I have a friend who has a problem that I have not been able to solve. Here is the situation…
He has a computer which he has built, (White Box). It has one hard drive with two partitions, each with about 5+ gig space. The first partition has Windows 2000 Pro installed, and the second partition has Windows XP Home installed. The hardware profile is identical in both installs. There is NO software installed (yet – until the problem is solved) The only thing on each partition is just the OS.

Here is what happens. When he shuts down the computer from XP, it shuts down normally and the system turns off. However, when he shuts down from 2000 Pro, the system will do a complete reboot. This happens every time.

I have tried to research this issue but have not come to a solution. Does anyone have an idea on what or where to look to correct this issue?

    Thanks in Advance.

Make sure that he as the most ACPI drivers (power management) available for his motherboard. This was a really big annoyance at my company. Everytime we reinstalled a service pack we had to reinstall power management… Also, make sure that the bios settings are set to run with a OS that is ACPI compatible…
