Rebooting viri?

Just recived a system for repair locked into a rebooting cycle. swapped out ram but problem persists. could this be a virus or am I barking up the wrong tree? (windows 98 on a E-machine 633 ids)

No, you may not be,but I would run spyware utilities to check the system and anti-virus to check out system

Also check the hardware fro driver updates

You gaved us to few details.

When does the machine reboots? Does it gets to the Windows loading screen? Does it loads windows completly and then it reboots?

Does it reboots in safe mode too? Have you tried striping the machine to bare minimum?(ie: maybe it has an internal dialup modem which suffered a surge and it causes this reboots)

Is the problem random or it folows a specific pattern?

Please give us more details and we may be able to help you better.

Sorry, reboots in all modes at the loading screen. had not thought about the modem.

had same thing on e machine w/ xp. hard drive was bad. kept rebooting to xp logo and then reboot again and again. pulled drive, checked on other pc. drive was bad.

Bingo!! bad drive, was trying to slave drive to run AV and Wahlaa. got it in the freezer now to see if i can save some data off it. you gots the points!!!
