rebuild tcp/ip or client for ms networks

By dhawes ·
win 2000 is broken and I need to fix the tcp/ip and or the bindings... Specificially I need to reinstall all necessary protocals to access the internet. I have attemepted to RIP all adapters and protocals and reinstall from both Admin and Safe Mode Admin with no avail. I would love to hear from someone that can give me an option other than reinstalling the OS...

What was wrong with it in the first place?
Why can't you reinstall drivers + protocols? What errors are you getting?

If I am not mistaken, windows 2000 must have some type of protocol installed at all times. What you may want to do is add either NetBeui or IPX/SPX, then try removing and then re-installing TCP/IP. Once that is done, then you may remove the the other protocols you installed that you don't need. As for client for MS networks, it should let you remove it, as I have no idea what that could be if not.

Hope that points you in the right direction.

There are 2 tools to provide fixes to this type of problem. LSPFix and WinSock XP Fix (it works on w2k as well). You can find them here:

http://www.spychecker.com/program/lspfix.html

http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html

The LSPFix provides a txt file with instructions and info. In the WinSock XP Fix click on the about button for instructions and info.

Cheers.

sounds like you got tcpip etc back installed ok. what do you get when you do this test:
Start/run/command <enter> at prompt type
ipconfig <enter> post what you get
while there try ipconfig /release <enter> then
ipconfig /renew <enter> see if anything changed. while in command prompt ping dns servers. get the numbers from your isp. type exit <enter> to close command window. can you get at internet with ip address instead of name? ping (also done at command prompt) an ip address to get it's number address. if you like answers like this, you need to post a lot more about what your errors are and what steps you are performing to get them else even with lots of points it is not worth the time for guessing wrong, see?
