Wanted some feedback about rebuilding a server. This is a test server, which will now be running on a different PC. There is only 1 DC, which also runs a website and is an email server, Exch2k3 (I’m aware that this isn’t an ideal setup).
I now want to take the server offline and move everything to a new PC. So, here’s what I did:
– Backed up the system state.
– Backed up the Exchange Information Store (online backup)
– Backed up the IIS metabase and the web folder.
Here are the steps I will take on the new PC:
– Install Win2k3 SP1.
– Install all security updates.
– DCPromo to the same domain name as I have now.
– Install and configure IIS.
– Install Exchange 2k3 SP1.
– Restore the system state using an authoritative restore.
– Restore the IIS web folder and metabase.
– Restore the Exchange Information Store.
I wanted to get some opinions regarding this procedure, to see whether I’m missing a step.
