Receiving old email

By millertimes ·
I am currently using Outlook express, with Mcafee spam killer. Recently I have been getting old emails from months ago. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Mcafee spam killer but am still having the same issue.

Are these messages originally mail that was quarantined by McAfee? In other words, were they held up somewhere and are now being released?

The other issue is how are you retrieving messages? I'm assuming you're using POP3, but that would make a difference as well. How does your POP3 server handle spam? Does it delete or quarantine messages? If we're talking about Gmail POP? If so, there are some POP settings you'll need to look at: does it keep retrieved messages in your inbox, delete them, or archive them?

Sorry, but without more information I can't diagnose the issue. It also doesn't help that I'm not familiar with McAfee's spam killer. If you have the inclination to follow up, I'd be happy to talk this through further.

Just a thought. When our mail server went down a while back it sent out old messages to people that had checked the option to keep a copy of the message on the server until it was deleted. They had deleted the messages but they had not emptied the trash in email. Once they deleted those messages and emptied the trash the problem went away.

You don't have "Retain Mail on Server" ticked by any chance do you? If that is the case when the allocated mail box area is full you will have the excess sent on to the computer from the Mail Server if it is setup correctly. So when the mail box area is full it then proceeds to empty the oldest ones first to the recipient.

That is about the only thing that I can think of that could be causing this problem to happen.
