Recommendation for E-mail server

By andrew.lawlor ·
Before my company hired me they signed up for e-mail service through an out of state company. Service has been poor and support is generally non-existant.

I want to set up a mail server for about 50 users but I think cost is going to be a huge factor.

Besides MS Exchange are there any reasonably priced mail server packages out there that will satisfy our needs?

Recommendation for E-mail server

I personnally would go with a linux based email server with qmail. Both have very simple licensing aggreements(if any) and are free to cheap. However i do suggest purchasing your software versus downloading the iso images as then you will get support. We use redhat 7 with qmail for 125 users on an old pII machine. Very stable and very easy to use once you get the hange of programmming in linux.Hope this helps

Depends on your level of expertise and comfort. You can try Slmail (www.seattlelab.com) for something that is easily configurable but not very feature rich. Then there's MDaemon (www.altn.com) that is more challenging but has many more features. Either will run on NT/2K/XP. Cost for either is relatively cheap, both are standards based and either can be used with almost any existing mail client.
