Recommendations for CRM for independent consultant?

By JPLconsultant ·
I've recently started my own computer consulting company. Right now, it's just me doing all the work associated with a startup. I'm looking for a good Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) software that's reasonably priced, ideal for a small organization but full of features. Does anyone have any experience with CRM's? Does anyone have suggestions/recommendations or words of experience to pass along?

Thanks,
JPLconsultant

Several options

by Ed Hodges In reply to Recommendations for CRM f ...

First, congratulations on starting your own business and best wishes for much success.

Now then, you have several options to explore; The low-cost route, the mid-level and then of course the high-end professional services CRM solutions.

On the low cost side, start by visiting sourceforge.net and looking for key words like CRM, helpdesk, workorder, accounting etc. If you have a web site and it is hosted on a linux server, there are a large number of free or low cost solutions that you could look at. Some of these are very high end solutions that take a lot of time to setup but can last you for years. One that I would recommend you look at is OpenCRM.

At the mid-cost level, as an IT Consultant, you may qualify for the Microsoft Action Pack. If you do, the cost is $199 a year. The Action Pack includes usable licenses with installation media for most of the business class applications MS sells. Included is MS CRM. The action pack lets you install MS Small Business Server 2003, MS SQL and MS CRM on a server and grants you 5 user license. These are real license and not 180 eval versions. You can install the AP MS Office 2003 on up to 10 workstations in your office etc. You should check it out anyway because it lets you use the products you may have to support. Thus eating your own dog food.

At the beginning, I said something about the high-end but really thinking about it, its clear you wouldn't benefit from that anyway. I'm pressed for time now but I'll browse back here later and add more.

Again, good luck.

Look for option of mobile access

by tomaz.krajnc In reply to Recommendations for CRM f ...

I hope the business is going well.

Concerning CRM I would like to put some stres to a remote accesabele CRM suite. Since you are alone in your company it is necesary, to push customer information through emediately. Otherwise you'll forget it.

Since there was a suggestion for using of MS apps, you can use the mobility options of a MS-SBS and Exchange.
