Recommendations for training and employment

By bill ·
Well guys and gals, here is my dilemma,I have over 30 years hands on experience with PC's. For the last 12+ years I have been working for a food service POS dealer. I have no formal certification but I am studying for my Comptia A+. After I get this certification, which way should I go. I had one friend suggest that I drop the A+ and only go with vendor specific training, (cicso, vmware, etc.) What do you think and suggest?

my humble recommendation

I'd stick with attaining your A+. It's a great gateway certification. Get into the rhythm of what it takes for getting a cert. With studying and whatever other avenues of education which are available to you, develop your routine.
First time at a testing center is always fun. Hand over your id, wallet and anything in your pockets, just short of being pat down. Then taken to the testing area with microphones and cameras everywhere! First time is kind of traumatic, or can be, I should say.
What to take next depends entirely on what your interests and goals are. There's dozens of paths to take. What are you wanting to do?

Why not stay in POS support

If you're interested, that is.

You probably already know the concepts and basics of the equipment and their relationships. See if you can find a job supporting general retailers.
