Record Locks Access 2007

Does anyone know the correct way to share a database created in Office 2007 with multiple users? I have created a database of my own which works very well and I have located it in a sharefile on my server which is also a domain controller, however other users cannot access it in edit mode because the records are automatically locked when the first user opens it.
As ever any help is much appreciated!
