Recording sound from a stereo

Hi, I am trying to record my cassettes to my computer so I can make a cd from them. I have Musicmatch jukebox. And Real player.
I also have windowsXP. I set the sound on recording. I have a cable to hook into the stereo back. have all kinds of in lines, and out lines. I have the cable inserted into the in plug on sound card. can you help.

First, does your system have a sound card, or on-board sound?
Most on-board sound systems do a VERY poor job of recording.

The audio connection should go from tape / line out on the stereo to line in on the sound card.

Finally, this link is more of interest if you were using a better quality source than cassettes.
The average sound card on most PCs does NOT do a very good job of recording.
