Recover data from a RAID 0 Array?

By JOVE ·
My question is how can I recover data from a RAID 0 Array when one of the hard drives failed? The array is setup like this: 2 IBM Deskstar 45 GB Drives in a RAID 0 configuration using a HIGHPOINT 370 RAID Controller running under Windows 2000 Pro. One of the drives failed (diagnosed as having bad sectors). Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Recover data from a RAID 0 Array?

RAID 0 is defined as disk striping without parity. This means that part of the data for each file is stored on each disk. This speeds up access time but offers no redundancy in event of failure. Unfortunately, if one disk fails, half of the data disappears too.

Without consulting a professional information recovery service or buying expensive software to do it yourself, there isn't any easy method to recover this data.

Basically that just tells me nothing about the actual expensive software for recovering the data.

Hi, here is a freebie, don't expect any points.

Just a basic recommendation when you do get out of your current problem.

All of my servers use raid 5 for maximum uptime, except for three back-up servers using raid 1 (Mirroring). We have had past drive failures on these, but the mirror drive (The one that does not fail), just keeps on truck'in as if nothing happened. Then, you can hot swap a new one in and the software automatically creates a brand new mirror.

Cheers,

George

Yea, I planned to do somthing with mirroring when I get the system back up. Right now I am waiting for the replacement drive to come. Thanks for the advice.

Raid 0, do not provide any faulty recover method. The only thing that could help you is a low level checking tool, which will redirect (at a low level) bad sectors to good ones. Many scsi boards have such a tool in order to check HD. I could "save" a strip set lossing only my winamp.exe file from my second HD by using the embeded scsi disk tool from my adaptec 2940UW board.
Also have some troubles to boot the machine, because the paging file was made over the damage unit.

Don't give back...& good luck
