Recover Data From SATA drive

By Casemaker ·
Hi,
I have a SATA drive that is giving me a read error. Dell diagnostics say to replace the drive.
When I have and ATA drive go bad but is still recogniized by the pc I am able to copy data off of it. I want to be able to do the same with the SATA. When I attach it to SATA connection 2 on another pc it is not recognized. Any thoughts?

If the other PC has no SATA drives installed then the obvious answer is that the SATA drivers are not installed so it remains invisible to you.

If you fit it to another computer and chose Add New Hardware you should be able to install the required drivers and get the data off it if it's still actually running which it may not be.

The best way to check it out is to get a copy of that drive Makers Testing Utility and not depend on a Generic Drive Tester for the correct reporting of problems. Of course if the drive is no longer running you'll never get the data off it.

Typically if an ATA IDE HDD has crashed, cannot be read, I can attach to another pc as slave and copy data. Can this be done with SATA drives attached to SATA 2 with the primary SATA drive on SATA1
