Recover Files from a failed hard drive

By SBD ·
The Drive is formated with NTFS and when trying to load WinXP Pro from Master drive or as a secondary drive with a master runnig a good copy of XP Pro it restarts pc as it accesses the drive each time. It will boot to the XP startup menu but reboots after you choose how to start, (Safe mode or normal mode) etc. How can I recover the files in My documents from this drive.

You never read the question,PC will not boot with this drive connected as master or slave, it automaticlly reboots before operating system loads.

Or simply press F8 on the reboot and roll it back to the last good known configuration.

Win XP (on your Master Drive) may be conflicting with the Win XP on your slave.
If you have Partition Magic 8.0 (PM8), you can try the following:
1. Disconnect the slave drive (your bad one).
2. Install PM8 to the master drive.
3. Create Rescue Disks (using PM
4. Power down & reconnect your slave drive
5. Boot from the rescue floppies and enter the PM8 utility program.
6. Set the partition on your slave drive to "hidden."
7. Remove the floppies & reboot to the master
8. Open PM8, right click on your slave partition and select "Browse"
9. Select the file(s) you want to recover, right click, and select "Copy"
10.Change the "Look in" entry to your master drive's partition, navigate to a folder of your choice, right click and select "Paste".
11.Viola!

If this doesn't work, the problem might be hardware related?

Unfortunately I don't have PM8 but it's a very good answer and I will award you the points. I now believe the problem to be hardware and therefor unsolvable

Did you read me answer? I said, installed the hard drive on second computer as regular hard drive( do not try to boot from there), and recover your files.
