recover overwritten boot sector with dynamic overlay

by paulmetot . Updated 18 years, 4 months ago

I have a 160G Maxtor hard drive that had a dynamic overlay in place due to the 30g limitation of the system bios of the PC (motherboard) in which it was installed. The boot sector has become corrupt and was then overwritten, mainly due to the late hour at which the kind suggestion to overwrite the boot sector was offered during the initial attempted repair.

This disk is currently slaved in another PC. Windows explorer sees the disk as 8mg. The previous sectors are not visible. No data has been written to the disk, other than the new boot sector.

Any advice other than several stiff drinks?

Thanks
