Recovering data from a Zip disk

By simon_mackay ·
My internal Zip drive has started to; at times; make the annoying click, which is known to spell death to data held on some Zip disks.

Is there any way where I can recover data from the Zip disk that has been affected by the "click of death". What I mainly want to do is copy the data (which is mainly digital images) over to a new disk.

With regards,

Simon Mackay

As cheap as hard drives are today, I would slave another HD to my system and copy the info to that. You can always copy it from the HD back to another Zip disk. We have had terrible luck with Zip and Jaz drives over the last two years.

I would either zip the entire contents and stuff it on your hard drive, image it using Ghost, or just buy a new Zip drive (if yours is under warranty and you scream loud enough at the tech they will send you a replacement while yours is in the shop....little known fact). Norton Utilities can assist in the recovery of the data if it can't be read on the new drive. Best to save NOW before it goes completely down, though, or alters the drive geometry so much that it can ONLY be read by that drive.
