Recovering Data from Blue Screen of Death

By Mikebyrne000 ·
I've been given a hard drive that will no longer boot Vista and keeps looping a Blue Screen of Death (page fault error).

The only way to fix the problem according to microsoft and google searches is to format the drive and reload vista.

My friend wants to save some pictures so I've used the various recovery programs on Hirens Booot CD 9.5 but none of them allow me to transfer data to my second hard drive (Both HD connected via Sata)

Can someone recommend a program that will allow the data transfer in a non windows environment?

hi
I regularly use 'Unstoppable Copier' on a UBCD4Win bootable CD to recover data off duff hd's onto a removable usb drive. Never tried via SATA though.

Cheers!

Problem Solved

by Mikebyrne000 In reply to Recovering Data from Blue ...

I tried to place the hard drive in an external enclosure and vista still crashed.

I downloaded Puppy Linux and it was able to pickup all the hard drives without the blue screen of death, so I moved all the files across to a clean HD.

Put in the Vista DVD and do a repair.

Put in the disk and when faced with the "install" icon look down your screen to the left and you will see the "repair" option, click on this and then follow the instructions.
Hope all goes well.

by Mikebyrne000 In reply to broken hd

The bsod screen was reporting a paging in a non paged area error.

I tried switching ram, repairing with vista dvd and all the repair apps on Hierns boot CD. All with no joy!

I raied the issue on various forums and microsoft have released a hotfix but I cant
apply it if I cant acces vista.

I downloaded Puppy Linux and it solved all the problems

XP safe recovery problem

by jgengineer In reply to Recovering Data from Blue ...

I have the XP home edition from around 2005. I have been doing the backups and also did the backup via Norton 360. When the system crashed I chose safe restore option that would require program reinstallation but wasn't supposed to delete my word/excel and picture files. Also all my window updates and SP3 has reverted back to SP2. reloaded the updates except that the system still shows SP2. Going to the Microsoft web site to download SP3 results in a license agreement to accept some other spy program or else you can't download SP3. Now I'm reading in the help file that backup only actually works on XP professional and not Home Edition. Have I lost all my vacation pictures and work files? If I buy PC Tools file recovery will that work after a restoration? How do I get a XP SP3 without also getting a spyware or tracking program? How come option 2 Safe restoration isn't so safe? Thanks John G
