I ahve a pc that I copy my files to a exturnal HDD and one of the files was encryptyed. after reformating the entire PC I cannot open the Encrypted files on the back up disk. Now the exturnal HDD is NTFS. is there a third party utility that I could download to un-encrypt the encrypted files? I have tried to take ownership of the files . I can see then now but I still cant move or copy them. Please help

Unless you changed the default recovery agent, only your account, or the local administrator account (recovery agent) can decrypt the files. If you have reformatted your PC, and unless you used the Certificate Export wizard and the Certificate Import wizard to transfer your certificate and private key to your user profile on another computer, you lose the chance the decrypt it because the identities of the old local account and the local administrator account used in encrypting the files were erased.
