Redesigning IP Scheme

By qatanasoff ·
just installed new black diamond box and want to come up with a good ip scheme to either subnet or vlan my network to get the most efficient and logical use of our network so that vendors will no longer say that we are flat and unsegmented. We have900 ip devices. 800 in 12 buildings on lan and 100 via 30 point to point t1's on wan. we are a hospital with physicians being the remotes

Redesigning IP Scheme

That's quite a question. You are going to have to split the 900 devices into VLANs to get this subnetted correctly, being as this is a hospital, I'm assuming that there are devices that can't be cut off from the network for more than a few minutes. Huge question. Email me with some specifics, I'll try to come up with something. [btw, this is worth WAY more than 150 points ]

Good luck!
Joe

Redesigning IP Scheme

Use the scheme similar to 192.120.yyy.xxx. In the site with 900 devices use the subnet mask 255.255.252.0 which will give you 1200 usable addresses. (If using MS OS 255 addresses do not work). In the Lans with 90 devices use subnet mask 255.255.255.0 This will give you 254 usable addresses. Tip: Keep 128.120.254.xxx range for your WAN links, I.e. 192.120.254.1/30 and 192.120.254.2/30 would be 1 WAN link. Using this scheme would allow you to use dynamic routing with the network 192.120.0.0. yyy is unique per site/LAN and xxx is unique per device within the site/LAN.
