Redirect parallel port print jobs

By kbwoynATL ·
Print jobs are generated on a AS400, saved to the user's PC in the temporary internet folder, and then redirected to a parallel port via a DOS batch file. Is there a way to modify this batch file to have the job redirected to a printer connected viaan IP address of a USB port? Most of the PC's are either Win2K or XP. Thanks.

Is the batch file sending the file to ltp1? You can map it to a server by using net use:

net use lpt1: \\server\sharedprinter

If you want to keep ltp1 that way [across multiple reboots] add to the end:

/persistent:yes

YOu might want to encapsulate the 'type' command then with the net use configurations.

Net use lpt1: \\server\sharedprinter
type %1 > lpt1
net use lpt1: /delete

A sample batch file is: type %1 > lpt1: The LPT port is usually whichever port is captured.
