1.3 gHz Athlon, 40 gig Maxtor hd, once had windows98 with upgrade windowsXP…. then reformated drive to use NTFS (full install) from the WindowsXP (update) CD. It seemed like the reformat was working til it rebooted now I get message “Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt /windows/system32/config/system.” I was worndering if i should go back to FAT32 but i no longer have that option when installing the windows XP disk. I tried a NEW Western digital drive and got the same result. However when i first formated the WD drive it gave me the option to format&partition the Maxtor drive… When i tried this i got the message that the NTFS had an invalid signature and i was to use NT disk adminstrator (what the heck is that?!) to fix the problem. I no longer can get the computer to redo this problem…. Hmmmm I am at wits end… My main goal is to get WindowsXP back and running on my computer, no matter what it takes
