Reformatting XP on HP system with no CD

I have a HP sytem with windows XP Home addition on it. The computer came with no System cd it is on the hard drive. I am having problems and would like to reformat it can anyone tell me how to go about this? When I tried to use an XP CD from someone else it would not let me do it.

With HP, you usually click Start--Programs--HP Tools--HP Application Recovery and follow the wizard it presents (although different HP's may work a little differently). Sometimes you still need the recovery disc to complete the process.

By the way, why do you want to reformat? If you suspect spyware/malware at all, some of these programs can traverse over and infect the recovery partition. Why not consider contacting HP, tell them the model of HP you have and ordery the recovery discs for a small price. Then you will have them if you ever need them again (and HP no longer has them available).

first of all you take a bootable floppy or cd of win98 or DM ver 9 or above. boot with this cd or floppy. then you can proceed with this

Restart the computer ... tap F10 until the system recovery screen comes up.
