reg key won't open

By miket6535 ·
On an NT 4 server I get an 'error while opening key' when trying to open HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/control/productoptions . When you go to this key in regsdt32 the key is grayed out. How can I access this key?

regedt32

Highlight that key...

Then click above - security --> Permissions... Give yourself PERMISSIONS to access it. Hit ok... now modify it.

I know this.. you must HIGHLIGHT the greayed out key... then go up top to security, then permissions and give yourself permissions... It will then ungrey itself so you can go further into it.

Also, you must be logged in as an admin to do this or it will not work.

As I had said, it is grayed out and you cannot access this key. Regedit shows it as a normal color but gives you an error message 'error while opening key' and Regedt32 shows it as gray so you can't click on it. I'm open for any other suggestions.
