Regarding UniVerse RDBMS

We take data from a UniVerse data to an Oracle database on a regular basis. A lot will depend on how your Universe database is designed and managed. Depending on how it is structured, it may be easy or it may be very difficult. Here are some of your potential issues:
1) Multi-value fields - Universe supports multi-value fields, Oracle does not. If these are used heavily, it will complicate your migration. Typically you'll have to write code (Pick BASIC or similar) to put the data in a format that you can import into Oracle.
2) Universe stores everything as text, there is no typing of fields as in Oracle. This can pose problems depending on your system design. It is likely you'll need extraction programs in Universe with logic tomassage the data into a format readable and importable by Oracle. Again, it depends on how the Universe database is set up and how well it is managed...
3) You'll probably want to extract the Universe data to a delimited file and then run a SQL-Loader script to put the data in the Oracle tables.

There are other issues, I'm sure, but a lot will depend on your specific environment. Hope this helps.
