Registering with Wins - Part 2

By johnnow ·
I have a couple of laptops connected to a 3Com Office Connect 56K Lan Modem. I am dialing into my Win NT 4.0 Server running RAS. My RAS hands a specific pool of IP addresses. How do I register my laptops with WINS? RAS hands out only 1 address for the connection from the Office Connect.

The problem is one of the laptops will register with the ip address handed out by RAS and the other laptop registers with the ip address handed out to it by the Office Connect.

I already answered you in part1, but i thaught i might also let you know of a feature in win2k, once a user loggs into the domain the DNS will update the WINS entry, which is what you need, I'm not sure if NT4 is also able to do it.

Try this:
Reserve IP addresses for each of the laptops. Make sure you exclude each IP from any dynamically assigned scaopes. Enter the IP addresses manually on each laptop NIC TCP/IP properties along with WINS and DNS information.
I don't know if this will work but it should help lead to other possibilities.
Good luck.
