Registering With Wins

By johnnow ·
I have a couple of laptops connected to a 3Com Office Connect 56K Lan Modem. I am dialing into my Win NT 4.0 Server running RAS. My RAS hands a specific pool of IP addresses. How do I register my laptops with WINS? RAS hands out only 1 address for the connection from the Office Connect.

WINS detects and includes all the valid NICs and machines automaticly. You just have to allow a few minutes for the machine to show up in WINS and on the Network Neighborhood.
Just make sure that the Laptops share the same workgroup under the Network Neighborhood properties.

Good luck!

The problem is one of the laptops will register with the ip address handed out by RAS and the other laptop registers with the ip address handed out to it by the Office Connect

hey,
WINS is a non routable protocol, so the client will not regester with the WINS server. you will need to do it manually, using LMHOSTS file, and assigning a static ip from DHCP to the user from the RAS dialins.
Hope this helps.
