Registry DAT viewer?

By gralfus ·
I'm looking for a freeware registry (*.dat, not *.reg) file viewer. I tried the MiTeC program, and it does indeed show the contents, but the search feature doesn't work (Find button is greyed out).

I need to be able to search for a key or string and then export the key as text or reg.

Any recommendations?

(assuming you are using Windows)Why not just load the *.dat file into regedit or regedt32 and do your search and export?

I'm actually looking a forensic image of a drive and want to view the registry without affecting either the registry I'm currently using (since the 2nd registry has to be imported), or the one I wish to view.

Can it be viewed without importing it? I didn't see a way to do this. I'm assuming that "import" means to import into the current registry, which I do not want to do.
