Registry entry to make Windows Update re

By ulf ·
After reinstalling my Win98 SE, Windows Update does not respond at all -says "Ready" but the screen is blank. I have heard that Win Update scans if the program is properly registered. Mine IS but the Registry entry must have been deleted. Where do Ifind it and what should be the key? I have read somewhere that it's easy to change but I can't find it.

I would check out technet article Q193657 or Microsoft's website at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q193/6/57.asp. This article list many different causes as to why the problem you are describing may occur. I would work through that to resolve your problem. It might not be a problem with your Win98 not being registered correctly. Good luck!

Try this, I know that it is not what you are looking for. I have registered only one copy of windows and I have no problem getting update to work. If you have the Inernet connection working go to this address. Windowsupdates.microsoft.com It willautomatically determine you OS and provide you with the available update options for your system.
