Registry Error

By D.C. ·
I get this error on startup:

"Windows encountered an error inthe system registry. Please close your programs and restart Windows now.

You may lose some of the information from the current session. Restarting will allow the registry to reinitialize.
RESTART WINDOWS <button>"
No matter how many times I restart, I get this error on startup.

Also, a dialup program gives this error:
"Run-time error 429

ActiveX component can't create object

I'm afraid that we are going to need more information such as OS, SP (if any), applications installed, what was done immediatley prior to this error, what you have done to correct it, etc...

Microsoft does have substantial information about this error, but most of it relates to VBScript.

Look at the following links...

i ended up by using a newer copy of Norton Disk Doctor, and Win Doctor. It ran for 45 minutes, and found registry errors. I deleted them, and the problem dissapeared.

This is the last option that I can figure out for you. If you have already rebooted your systen numerous time already and the problem isn't fix then try to do a reload of your OS otherwise backup your data and do a clean install. It might seem to be a dumb answer but for this type of issue it is the best solution for any operating system. Doing a reload of it will only temperarely resolve your issue.

Good luck,

a reload of the OS would probably have fixed it, but was too drastic

OS: Win95
My attempts to correct:
-'Running 'Norton System Works'
- Running Regclean

I am about to rebuild the registry from DOS, but am unfamiliar with this process and am nervous...

Have you try to recover your system using your ERD and setup disks? (providing that you maintained a current ERD!), if you have the ERD ( a current one) try to see if you can boot your system using the setup disks and repair your system...

Before you go any farther, this is a profile issue. The run-time is unrelated, but the Active X one is. To try it out, open Control Panel-Passwords. Go to the User Profiles Tab and select the "Users Can Customize Their Preferences And Desktop Settings" option. Delete all .pwl files on the local drive and reboot. This will create all new profiles and I bet you your error will go away.

NOTE: If you do not want to enable multi-profiles, try to delete the .pwl files anyway. This will reset your all your desktop settings back to default. As far as the run-time error, I don't know where to take you without some more info. What program is it??? Is it recent???
