    Registry Line Export/Import

    by enduser80 ·

Hi , i deleted a registry line from my win7 registry as a leftover from an unistalled app and i want to re-import it as it causes problems. I have a backup or the whole registry but i have installed a couple of programs since then with installers that probably have altered the registry. So importing this older backup is not a good idea right?

Can i export this certain line alone (from the backup file) and then import it in my current registry?

    thanks

By using regedit – “export” , but it’s the whole registry.

First export a very small part of the registry, see how the exported .reg-file is structured and import it again.

Then use your favorite text processor to copy the lines you need to import from the backup file to your own new .reg-file and import that.

I actually didn’t find what i was looking for so i’ll leave it as it is.

Do you guys recommend free registry repair software?

I don’t trust those very much , IT pros say it may do harm so i hesitate…

Why not create that entry manually?

Exporting and importing registry keys can be a useful way to transfer settings and configurations between different computers or to backup important settings. Here are some solutions to common problems that may arise when exporting or importing registry keys:

“Cannot export key” error: This error can occur when you don’t have permission to access the key. To fix this, right-click on the key and select “Permissions” from the context menu. Give yourself full permissions, then try exporting again.

“Registry editing has been disabled” error: This error occurs when the registry editing feature is disabled by your system administrator or through a group policy. You may need to contact your administrator to enable this feature.

“Cannot import file” error: This error can occur when the exported file is not in the correct format. Make sure that the file has a “.reg” extension and that it is compatible with your version of Windows. You can also try opening the file in a text editor to ensure that the contents are formatted correctly.

“Access denied” error: This error can occur when you don’t have permission to import the key. To fix this, right-click on the file and select “Run as administrator.”

“Cannot import registry file” error: This error can occur if the file is corrupted or if there are syntax errors in the file. Try exporting the key again and make sure that the file is not corrupted. You can also try importing the key using the Command Prompt by typing “regedit /s <filename.reg>”.

Always be careful when editing the registry as changes can have unintended consequences. It is recommended to create a backup of the registry before making any changes.
