This is the command for XP, not sure if it will work for W2k or not:
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\ie.inf

worth a try though.

As stated in the MSKB Article (293907)
"How to Uninstall Internet Explorer 6," IE cannot be fully uninstalled because it's preinstalled in Windows by default. The only way to fully uninstall and reinstall IE is to reinstall Windows XP.

You might want to try the alternatives Opera, Mozilla or Netscape if you don't want to reinstall Windows at the moment.

Or you might want to edit the Registry to repair IE. To Edit the Registry, perform the following steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
The Run box appears.
2. In the Open: box, type regedit then click OK.
3. Complete an in-place upgrade of Windows XP, or a repair of Windows XP.
4. Locate the appropriate registry subkey and right-click the IsInstalled (REG_DWORD) value.
5. Click Modify.
To reinstall only the Internet Explorer 6 browser component on Windows XP, use the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}

6. Change the value data from 1 to 0.
7. Click OK.
8. Quit the Registry Editor, and proceed to download and install Internet Explorer 6.

Download the latest version of IE (Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1) at this link:
