reinstall ME

by TheChas In reply to reinstall ME

I assume that you are referring to re-installing Me over an existing instalation.

You will not loose any data files.

Some Windows settings will revert back to the Microsoft default settings, and you will need to adjust them.

You may loose Windows Updates;
Drivers;
and, may need to re-install some software.

It is always good practice to back up data files and user settings before re-installing any version of Windows.
It is possible that something will go wrong, and you will need to format the drive to get things working again.

Depending on what you hope to accomplish by re-installing Me, there are other options.
If you believe that you have missing or corrupt system files, you can use System File Checker to review and replace files.
Just run sfc from the run box.

If you are having a lot of problems, and have been advised to re-install Me, you really need to format the hard drive first. This does DELETE ALL files and settings.
