REINSTALL NETWARE 6.0

By corkybenle ·
SCENARIO:

2 HARD DRIVES: ONE FOR SYS, THE OTHER FOR DATA
PARTITIONS/VOLUMES ON SECOND DRIVE

IF I WANT TO WIPE OUT THE SYS DRIVE AND REINSTALL NETWARE 6.0, WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY SECOND DRIVE DATA?

I AM TRYING TO PREVENT HAVING TO RECONFIGURE THE PARTITIONS/VOLUMES AND RESTORING THE DATA.

IS THIS POSSIBLE, OR WILL I END UP HAVING TO RECREATE THE PARTITIONS/VOLUMES ANYWAY AND RESTORING THE DATA ANYWAY...?

THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP.

Make good backups anyway, but...

Destroying the netware partion on one drive does no harm to partitions on another physical drive. During install, netware will ikely "discover" these partitions and simply merge them into NDS. If not you can do it manually after installation.

If this is not the only server in the tree, there are implications and considerations to removing it and re-installing, but you didn't say if that the case here.

Make sure you make backups of the trustee rights. (with tbackup, tcopy32 or something similar). All trustees will be unknown after installing the new server. You could of course also restore trustees from tape, but tbackup is much easier and quicker.
