Had to reinstall my XP Pro on my Compaq Presario 7588. My motherboard has a built in ESS Allegro PCI Audio (WDM) sound card. After this I tried using my headset for a PC to PC call. Microphone wouldn’t work.I checked the physical connection. I checked volume controls: playback mic is not muted, record mic selected. Under Sound and Audio Device Properties, Voice tab Voice Recording Default Device is ESS Allegro. Ran Test Hardware and microphone failed. Checked the mute switch on the headset, not muted. I have checked the sound drivers and they are the most current and are XP compatible. I will be taking my headset and testing it on another computer to make sure it is not the actual microphone. If anyone has any ideas please respond.
