Remote Access

By alciur22 ·
How do I remotely get through a dsl router to a PDC 4.0 and perform diagnostics on static ip'd workstations and servers. Ex. I want to be able to get into the Server for Net Meeting and other troublshooting duties from my office. I want to be able to perform the same on the workstations.

Remote Access

If the DSL router is doing NAT, you generally don't, with the possible exception of one station, which you can route ports to.

What you can do, maybe, depending on the router and perhaps the phase of the moon, is to route the GRE protocol and thePPTP ports to the server, install RRAS on the server, allowing you into your network via a PPTP tunnel. Once in, you can use PC-Anywhere or similar to remote control anything on your net.

If the DSL router is routing to valid IP addresses, then no problem. Get past your firewall (You DO need a firewall in this case!) using either a specific hole for your IP, or a tunnel. Use PC-Anywhere or any similar remote control package.

Good luck.
