Trying to set up a dial up account on my win2k PC, but can only get as far as naming the connection. No matter what I call it, it keeps coming up with the error of invalid name. Somehow it pointed me in the direction of remote access connection manager in administrative tools > services. This service is not running and will not run when I try and start it. I have checked a friend?s machine who basically has the same set up as me (running 2k etc.) and this service is running for him. When Itry and run the service, it tries to start it but comes up with the error message “Windows could not start the Remote Access Connection Manager on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 1717.” When I try and open Even Viewer, it comes up with the error message “Unable to complete the operation on “System Log”. The interface is unknown”
I know my modem is working perfectly fine. So I don’t think that is the problem. Can I delete the RACM service and reinstall it, or is my machine screwed and I have to re install 2k again?
