Remote Access Policy Error in Windows 20

By David Ramos ·
Hello,

I am leaving on a trip tomorrow, and I decided to set up Routing and Remote Access to let me connect to my network via VPN through my laptop. I am running Windows 2000 Server SP1. When I enable and configure RAS, I get the error "Routingand Remote Access cannot verify that the default Remote Access Policy matches the settings for the server. The following error ocurred: Error in the DLL (800401f9).

After this error, the RAS server continually fails to start, so I cannot use theVPN capabilities. What is causing this, and how can I resolve this? I have looked throughout the Microsoft KB and the TechRepublic site, and it appears no one ever has this problem?? I know I can just reinstall Windows 2000, but I don't have enough time since I'm leaving tomorrow.

Please help!
Thanks in advance,

It seems that you problem might be the type of authentication you're running. Check on authentications (I'd suggest that since you're leaving tomorrow, to allow any authentication including clear text on both server and WS). Also, check the RRAS service on W2K for Remote Access Policies.
It should only contain Allow access if dial-in permission is enabled.
Also, under computer management, local users and groups, users, double-click on your name and go to dialin tab and give yourself permissions to dial in.

Good luck!
