Remote connection to network

By byteside ·
I want to connect via laptop to a network from a remote location. A firewall exists on the network. Can I use something like PCanywhere? How does it work and how do I get through the firewall. I have never done anything with remote access or firewall before so any help would be great. Thanks.

Need more information such as "how" do you want to connect. VPN, dial in, use PC Anywhere, XP remote assitance, remote desktop?. Also what's the network? W2K based? RRAS installed? DNS? AD? so on and so forth.

on a peer to peer PC Anywhere is probably the best choice. It works great and is a proven software package. I haven't tried XP's remote desktop so I don't know if it is as good as PC Anywhere.

As an after thought, the best advantage I see with XP's remote desktop is that it comes preinstalled so it's free.

First you will need a VPN setup to get through the firewall. The compsny should have a remote access setup. Once you are in, either rdc or pc anywhere should work fine. But they will need to be setup on all systems to be used.
